I was a Peace Corps volunteer in the 1980’s. Stationed in the uplands of the Philippines there were constant cases of malaria. I was fortunate to have a weekly medication for prevention. Most people where I lived did not. “Malaria is a serious, mosquito-borne parasitic disease caused by Plasmodium parasites, primarily infecting red blood cells, leading to symptoms like fever, chills, headache, and fatigue, and can range from mild to life-threatening, especially in vulnerable populations like young children in tropical regions”.
