2/9/2026 Economic Journal Post #1

I am not an economist. Everyone has an opinion on the economy and this is my way to journal my thoughts. These posts will seldom go longer than a paragraph or two. I really don’t want to be long winded and bore anyone who clicks on the link and ventures to read.

Today we wait for the jobs report and inflation numbers. The job reports is on Wednesday.

It is expected to be bleak. This does not surprise anyone out there looking for a job. I am a senior looking for part time employment. The postings on the usual job boards and even on corporate web sites have dipped in number substantially. The quality of those jobs have plummeted even more. Job creation is expected according to information on news sites to be around 60,000 for the month. Basically no growth or a negative number if you factor in the thousands and thousands and thousands of layoffs.

I am sure the White House is trying their best to come out with a positive spin. Unemployment is expected to remain about the same if you actually give the report any credence. Most of the people laid off are probably not counted unless of course they are out looking for a job every day which is required to be counted. No party wants to develop policy around the more important and telling job participant rate. Hard to spin that number when it may be the lowest in history. Unemployment at 4.5% sounds much better than 68% of those of employment age are in the workforce. Stay tuned on Wednesday. You can bet any dramatic number not expected will create a reaction in the stock market. More tomorrow. Thanks for visiting!
