Tip for Coaches
90% of the problems come from 10% of people. While the 10%, who seemed to always have a problem with something, not listen, not be on the same page as everyone else are the loudest and seemingly very demanding… It is really important not to let them take 90% of our attention. Only give them the 10% so that you don’t run out of energy and care for the majority of the group that is invested, bought in, and there for the right reasons. It can especially be challenging when a very talented athlete isn’t on board. The old phrase you can bring a horse to water, but you can’t make it Drink is the main thing to remember at this point. Do what you can. Do enough. And try to let it go. It clicks for everyone on their own time. I might be that years later this student has their “aha moment”, and you will still have supported them in their journey. You may never get a thank you, but you have to be able to find peace in knowing that you did your best each day, whether it fixed the problem or not.
